my mothers lap

For my first “interior product” assignment I had to design a chair.

First we had to choose the material, the type of chair we want to make and what fascination or inspiration we wanted to use in the design. Then we had to make a 1:1 sketch of the chair which shows how the chair is about to look like or feel.

Then we had to make a prototype.

I chose to make a rocking chair from wood with a fascination for soft textiles. I wanted to make a chair that almost feels as nice as sitting on your mothers lap. It had to be soft, body adjustable and it had to rock. I made my 1:1 sketch out of steel because that was quicker and a easy way to look if the form I was imagining would work as I wanted it to.

At the moment I am busy with making the prototype, but I still have to make a couple of changes about the under construction.

the five nuns / material study

The assignment was to choose an existing building (woontorens Breda/nonenveld) and make a more apstract model of it. This ment that we did not copy the building with all it´s details but choose an aspect and

illustrate our interpretation of it in a model.

The building was a livingcomplex consisting of five towers which where surounded by a parking garage. The towers had four different sides which all had very obvious details. But the aspect that for me stood out the most was the shyniness of the building. It was

interessting to make a more apstract version of a

building and only concentrate on one aspect.

personal space

The assignment was to design a personal space using the cardboard.

I decided to make a space where people can tell about all their problems, or fears, or secrets. I wanted to create a space that would make it easier for people to open up. The cabine I designed consist of walls that are made out of elastic band and piecec of the carboard. I used the wavestructure of the cardboard to weave the elastic band through. This created a partially transparent walls that allowed enough light to come in and still give the feeling of privacy. The intention is that you go inside the cabine and write down what you want to tell and then hang up your letter on the pieces of cardboard. The letter will be held by the elastic band that is woven over the cardboard. This way everybody who uses the cabine can read your anonymous letter and see that he or she is not the only one with problems and then maybe feels better about sharing their story.
